Pygmy Owl reveals itself

The snow brought a Pygmy Owl out of the forests on Monday and it was hunting on a field edge that hosted the Hawk Owl a couple of weeks ago. It would be something if the two were present at the same time and interacted in some way although I wonder if the reason that Pygmy Owl has been so hard to find this autumn in Maridalen is related to the presence of the Hawk Owl.

The Mistle Thrush has not been seen since Sunday although its rowan trees are still hosting a host of Bullfinches and Blackbirds. Otherwise it is just overload of Hawkie and Piney. It is probably getting too much now but as it may be another 4 years until they turn up in Oslo again I think I’ll just keep on enjoying them.

I finally managed a sharp picture of a wing stretch. Looks like all the primaries are of the same generation so this might mean it is a bird of the year

it lightened the load a few seconds before this picture so I knew it was likely to fly. What I did not expect was that it passed me at about 1 metres range!
