Oslo butterflies June 2023

Temperatures in the 20s (forecast to reach 30 next week), blue skies and approaching the middle of June means that my eyes are gazing more and more down rather than up. The variety of both butterflies and dragonflies has increased greatly in just the last week although it has to be said that there is not a large number of individuals (yet).

This week I have seen 23 species of butterfly in Oslo which is a very respectable total. Here are pictures of the most exciting species.

Swallowtail (svalestjert) - a very fresh individual

male Northern Chequered Skipper (svartflekksmyger)

Small Peal-bordered Fritillary (brunflekket perlemorvinge)

Pearl Bordered Fritillary (rødflekket perlemorvinge)

Mazarine Blue (engblåvinge)

Large Skipper (engsmyger)

female Green-underside Blue (kløverblåvinge)

Pearly Heath (perleringvinge)

Speckled Wood (skogringvinge)

a late Holly Blue (vårblåvinge)

male Green-underside Blue

a male Orange-tip (aurorasommerfugl)

Dingy Skipper (tiriltungesmyger)

female Common Blue (tiriltungeblåvinge)
