Dull November

November before the snow comes has to be the absolute worst time of the year in Norway. On days like today with low cloud and constant drizzle it doesn't even get properly light. The birds don't seem to like it either and just vanish. I went for a 3km walk in quite nice forest hoping to see something of interest and in the course of an hour had only a handful of Goldcrests (fuglekonge) and that's it - not a single woodpecker, owl, forest grouse or crossbill and certainly no grosbeaks.

Whilst taking the youngest to school I  did have 120 Waxwings (sidensvans) fly over in 4 flocks which does at least give the hope that they will brighten up the dull days as they lay into the apples still hanging on trees in the neighbourhood.
