It does of course help when you see something
interesting, and today I came across three juvenile Hobbies in Maridalen that
showed impeccably well. Surprisingly there were no adults with them (that I saw)
but they gave the impression of being very recently out of the nest and I am
sure have not travelled far. I might not have discovered where the Hobbies bred
in (or close to) Maridalen but feel this is evidence that they did breed successfully.
There were also two pairs of Whooper Swans in
addition to the family so I think it is inevitable that more than one pair will
start breeding in the valley in the coming years.
A trip to Østensjøvannet revealed 10 Ruff feeding on
the floating water weed and a Pink-footed Goose was a surprise but probably a
bird that has spent the summer in the Oslo area rather than being an early migrant.
