Moose in da hood

Little in the way of birding today but a moose in the neighbourhood was a lot of fun and my pictures and those of Jr Jr made it into the local newspaper. The video gets a bit shaky because I decided I needed to get behind a car when it looked like the Moose was going to walk straight up to me!

we first saw the moose early in the morning when it was snowing heavily

but the sun came out in the afternoon and the moose went wandering

It has been in the area for at least a month and is believed to be the same animal that was also in the area last winter. It is very calm and finds lots of food in gardens with a special like for shoots and buds on apple trees

my first Lesser Black-backed Gull (sildemåke) of the year. Despite being ringed as a breeding bird close to Oslo in May 2016 the ring has only been reported from Oslo area in subsequent years with no interesting sightings to suggest migration routes or winter quarters

This was pretty much the only ice free water in Maridalen but 7 Whooper Swans (sangsvane) including what is presumably last years family were making use of it
