Today was
a fantastic autumn day. Sun, no wind and warmth. There are great autumn colours
now and these reflected off the water of Maridalsvannet. The lake was not
exactly covered with birds but the Long-tailed Duck is still present and 9
Guillemots was a huge inland count. Presumably they end up here after failing
to find their way out of the inner Oslo Fjord and end up flying around and when
they see just forest land on the closest large lake. They were calling a bit and
flying around the lake but none were actively diving and looking for food. A
flock of 14 Goosander though were very actively fishing and the Guillemots
should be able to find food.
I had
hoped for some raptors today (it is a good time for Rough-legged Buzzard or
Golden Eagle) but had none at all. Passerines were not very numerous either but
a flock of Long-tailed Tits was a treat as always.
