I went for a walk in the forest today to see what the
situation was like for drumming woodpeckers. The snow made the going rather
tough and I should maybe have chosen skis. There was not much in the way of
drumming although I did hear one distant bird. It only drummed very
occasionally and seemed to move around. At various times I thought it was a
Three-toed, a Great Spot or a Black but could never nail it. One rather obvious
explanation is that there was more than one bird/species drumming….
Other than that there was little in the forest
except for a few tits up in the canopy.

Treecreepers (trekryper) always walk up the sides or the back of a tree and it is scientifically proven that they NEVER walk up the front, and that most certainly isn't an alternative fact! |
Several great spotted woodpeckers were madly drumming away at Lilleøya yesterday. -- Glenn Martin
