Guiding and Shrikes

I was guiding Gretchen from Philadelphia today in glorious weather but as we started early we avoided the hot dead period of the day. Yet again the absence of Willow Warblers (and other warblers) was striking and worrying although a few Yellow Wagtails today was more than usual and suggests that this species may have fared well.

We visited Fornebu and Østensjøvannet and had 60 odd species including Red-backed Shrike, Wryneck, Redstart, Spotted Flycatcher and Dunlin. Finches seem to be doing very well and especially Goldfinches were common at Fornebu.

one of four Red-backed Shrikes today. This one being lit by the early morning sun at 07:30

these young Barnacle Geese are a very late brood
