Wheatears

Sunny, blue skies but again cold today. The school run was enlivened by singing Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Lesser Whitethroat and Robin which is quite a nice dawn chorus.
I had two short sessions in the field today. The first was an hour in Maridalen where there was nothing of interest on the water but on the fields ten Wheatear, a male Whinchat, a male Redstart and a Yellow Wagtail. A Snipe still displaying and a couple of singing Bramblings are most likely late migrants as they don’t normally breed in these parts.
An hour at Fornebu at lunchtime gave a number of birds in a small area: ten Wheatears, two Spotted Flycatchers, Redstart, Whinchat, Yellow Wagtail, Snipe, Greenshank and a Rook heading north.
I had quite a few Wheatears today but elsewhere a huge fall was noted with one observer noting hundreds in a small area.
