Ducks on the move

I hoped that nice weather today would reveal a lot of birds which was partially the case although not the birds I had been hoping for and the sunshine took a lot longer to break through than the weather forecast had suggested. The Hawk Owl showed itself well although it was very overcast when I saw it but otherwise the forest was a quiet affair.

In Maridalen I saw two distant tight flocks of ducks in the bins and was expecting to find scoter but instead they were 14 Teal and 19 Wigeon. These are good numbers for this deep lake and a real sign of there being some movement last night. There are still 250 Greylags and amongst them a single Pink-foot. A juvenile and adult Black-throated Diver are also still on the lake but were at different ends so the juvenile will probably be able to start its migration soon.

this Greylag Goose has been in Maridalen all autumn and I have been expecting it to be reported as a White-front although that hasn't happened. It could be leucism but I suspect there are som feral goose genes in their

a single Pink-footed Goose (kortnebbgås) has lost its way and taken up company with the Greylags

a Mistle Thrush (duetrost) - this species rarely shows as well as this in Norway
