Guiding update

I am getting a number of inquiries about the Great Grey Owl and Pine Grosbeak so thought an update would help.

Both are still eminently possible but I would of course recommend trying for them sooner rather than later. Pine Grosbeaks are getting scarcer as they eat up readily available berries and presumably move back into the forests to return to their staple diet of spruce buds. There are however still a few small groups that I have been following in areas which have LARGE amounts of berries and these birds are still reliable.

With more than one Great Grey Owl in the area the chances of finding this species are high but it has to be said they are unpredictable in their appearances. Around dawn and dusk are the best times but on Saturday and again today they were on show and hunting during the day (changing weather conditions are probably affecting hunting success and therefore behaviour). A full day or an afternoon one day and then a morning outing the next would therefore maximise chances of success.
