Værøy calling

Only 3 days to go until I arrive on Værøy although I arrive late on the Wednesday so will only have time for a hour or so's birding. The winds though are looking pretty darn good with easterlies originating in Russia forecast to bring flocks of rare Asian migrants to Værøy whilst just dropping a smattering of scarce birds on Røst ;-) Look at this map showing the winds at 2am on Wednesday morning.

Yellow-browed Warblers are already turning up all over the place including what I assume is a record number in inland Norway (one was found in a garden close to Oslo this morning). Birders haven't really arrived in the usual big places so I suspect that there are much large numbers out there waiting to be found and hopefully lots more on their way.

The Pallid Harrier has been showing to everyman and his dog the last couple of days so looks like I'll have to give it another go and hopefully get to enjoy it for more than a couple of seconds.
