Close to home

I am still suffering from a bug so let Rune go off on mammoth drive today whilst I stayed close to home. After a few days of positive temperatures today was back to solid minus temperatures which has left roads and pavements resembling ice rinks but also creates a fantastic light. At Fornebu there was a lot of ice on the fjord and a great view into the city.

Kestrel (tårnfalk) - nearly a substitute for Hawk Owl especially when he sits like this
The overwintering Kestrel showed himself off well and whilst taking a picture of him a Water Rail (vannrikse) squealed from the reedbed at Storøykilen. I am very surprised that there are still birds here given how cold it has been as I assumed that there was no open water available to them until the last few of days. At Furst Brygge the small area of open water held 50 or so Goldeneye (kvinand) and amongst them the female Smew (lappfiskand) is still present aswell as 2 Velvet Scoter (sjøorre) and a single Guillemot (lomvi).

In Maridalen nothing of particular note and it is now a couple of weeks since I last saw Pine Grosbeaks here.
